The disgraced trio of David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft have felt a serious backlash for their involvement in the Australian cricket ball tampering saga but some critics aren't so sure they're the only ones involved.

1 NEWS Sport reporter Guy Heveldt told TVNZ1's Breakfast this morning he believes the hefty bans are fair.

"It's not what they did so much, it's not the fact that they ball tampered - it's the way they went about it.

The 1 NEWS Sport reporter say there may be more fallout from the scandal after Smith, Warner and Bancroft were cut from the Test squad. (Source: Other)

"They clearly planned this. The findings of this report found Warner led it, Smith was told about, they then roped in a younger, inexperienced player in Bancroft and said, 'look we need you to do this because the cameras are focused on us too much - if you do it we should get away with it'."

However, Heveldt said he finds it hard to believe the three sanctioned players were the only ones in on the plan.

"I struggle to believe these are the only three players who knew about it," he said.

"I think this is something they've done before - there's a good chance, maybe not sandpaper, but ball tampering to a pretty extreme extent.

"I think there's a lot more to this than what we know so far."

Some cricket celebrities are still pointing the finger at coach Darren Lehmann, despite Cricket Australia jumping to his defence to say he didn't know the situation was unfolding in the third Test.

Despite the challenges and recent reports, Lehmann has confirmed this morning he won't step down from his role as coach, instead looking to make a cultural change to the team.

He had some trans-Tasman examples in mind.

"If we take a leaf out of someone, like say New Zealand's book," Lehmann said.

"The way they play and respect the opposition.

"We've got to make sure we're respecting the game, its traditions."
