Parents of UK man who lost leg after horrific Thai motorbike accident 'desperate for help'

March 29, 2018

The parents of a British man who lost a leg after horrific motorbike accident in Thailand are making a desperate appeal for financial help to assist him after flying to his bedside.

Harry Cross is in excruciating pain in a medical centre in Thailand, a week after being hit by a sugar truck north of Bangkok.

He was trapped under the truck and dragged for 15 metres, damaging his right leg beyond repair, Australia's Nine News reports.

In a video filmed at the hospital and posted on You Tube, Mr Cross' father Colin Cross said he and Harry's mother had come over from London to see him "after this most horrific, tragic accident he's had, this life changing accident".

"We're here to give him as much support as we can. We need help, we need desperate help money wise for him. Whatever you've got please give and share on social media sites so people can donate. That's so important at the moment," Mr Cross said.

Harry's parents and brother have had to return home and his sister will be leaving at the end of the week, Nine News reports.

But the 29-year-old Harry has a good friend in Thailand in Brisbane man James Bailey who had to make the devastating call to Harry's parents and tell them their son had lost his leg.

That was moments after delivering the traumatising news to his mate.

Mr Bailey, who has been living in Thailand for almost three years, was heartbroken having to explain to the avid skater and footballer that he had lost his leg.

"I told him 'Thank God I've got you mate' but then had to tell him about the crash."

Half an hour later, when the tube was removed from Mr Cross' throat he simply said, "at least I am alive".

Mr Bailey has found two doctors willing to operate on Harry's shattered pelvis in Bangkok, but they have to wait for an ICU bed to become available.
