The man charged with wounding a four-month-old Howick baby who was hospitalised with 16 fractures in February has been revealed as her father.
The 28-year-old man appeared in Manukau District Court charged with charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
A 30-year-old woman who was also charged with perverting the course of justice, has been revealed as the baby's mother, NZ Herald reported.
She is set to appear in Manukau District Court tomorrow.
The court granted the father interim name suppression to protect his child's identity.
He spent last night in custody and appeared in Manukau District Court at 4pm today.
He was remanded on bail until April 18 and ordered to surrender his passport and have no contact with his child, or her mother.
The parents were charged over the incident yesterday, after their baby was admitted to Middlemore Hospital on February 18 with a range of serious injuries.
The horrific injures were described by police on March 16 as "non-accidental" and inflicted over a period of time.
"Medical staff discovered significant fractures to her body, which included to her skull, ribs, arms and legs," Detective Senior Sergeant Eddie Sutherland said in a statement.
"The fractures have been described by medical experts as being of varying ages and classically associated with non-accidental injury.
"Thankfully, the child is going to make a full recovery however Police are extremely concerned by these injuries and Oranga Tamariki has been notified."
The girl is in the care of Oranga Tamariki.
