Watch: Cricket Australia boss squirms in front of media after refusing to say disgraced ball tampering trio 'cheated'

March 28, 2018

Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland says he's angry at Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bamcroft for their actions in the ball tampering saga that has unfolded in South Africa, but he refuses to call the trio cheaters.

Sutherland was repeatedly pressed during this morning's press conference whether the three had cheated in the third Test at Cape Town, but the Aussie cricket boss had an answer prepeared each time.

"This is not in the laws of the game, this is not in the spirit of the game."

Media continued to press Sutherland for a yes or no answer during the conference until another Cricket Australia official stepped in to shut it down.

"He's answered the question three times now, we're moving on."

Sutherland confirmed in the conference the trio were sent home from the remainder of the tour with more sanctions expected over the next 24 hours when more investigating had been completed.

The three replacement players for the fourth and final Test starting on Friday are Matthew Renshaw, Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns.

The Cricket Australia Board has endorsed Tim Paine as captain of the Australian Test team.
