A 21-year-old woman was this morning assaulted on the streets of Christchurch, when a man attempted to restrain her while she was walking to work.
The man approached the woman on the footpath at 6.19am on Restell St in the suburb of Papanui.
The woman received a minor injury to her hand and searched out help from a nearby business.
Police are now searching for the perpetrator who is described as 5 foot 8 inches tall, and was wearing a light coloured zip up hooded sweatshirt at the time of the assault.
The woman was wearing an orange fluorescent jacket at the time.
Police say the victim was shaken by the incident, and they would like to hear from any witnesses of the assault.
