Cricket Australia’s response to the ball tampering crisis is being ridiculed around the cricket world with many in disbelief at the assertion that coach Darren Lehmann did not know about the plot.
Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has led the chorus after CA CEO James Sutherland announced this morning that captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and opener Cameron Bancroft were being sent home from South Africa in disgrace.
Clarke, who was captain under Lehmann, called on his former employers at Cricket Australia to be fully transparent in their handling of the crisis.
"The truth, The full story, Accountability and Leadership – until the public get this Australian cricket is in deep shit!" Clarke wrote on Twitter.
The former captain also doubts that only Smith, Warner and Bancroft were aware of the conspiracy,
"To (sic) many reputations on the line for the full story not to come out. Cape Town change room is a very small place!"
A host of former England captains including former England captain Bob Willis also joined the chorus of disbelief that Lehmann will remain as coach. .
"I find that almost unbelievable and I think Lehmann is very lucky to survive," Willis said.
"I find it remarkable that he didn’t know anything about this and he has been exonerated. Surely the head coach has to be part of the leadership group of an international cricket team?"
"I would have thought his credibility was shot, the standards of behaviour have been very poor with Darren in charge of this Australia side and he is lucky to get off scot-free."
Willis' fellow former England captains Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen also Tweeted their disbelief in rather amusing fashion.
