Relive 1 NEWS NOW's live updates of this morning's press conference held by Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland in Johannesburg.
6:39am
Media are starting to repeat themselves now so the presser has been ended. That wraps up this morning's conference. Just to recap the key points from Sutherland
- Only three players involved - Smith, Warner and Bancroft - who have all been sent home from South Africa
- Australian coach Darren Lehmann is not stepping down
- Further punishments for disgraced trio to follow after further investigation
6:33am
Sutherland says he has not seen all three but he has spent time with Smith and says he is "distraught" at the moment.
6:29am
Australian coach Darren Lehmann is not stepping down from his post despite rumours. Sutherland says he will complete his current contract.
6:27am
Sutherland says further punishments are to come for the disgraced trio but the board wants a thorough investigation before handing out such penalties, meaning we will not know what suspensions face Smith and Warner until a later date.
6:22am
All three are leaving the squad and South Africa tomorrow. Tim Paine has been appointed captain of the team.
6:21am
Sutherland says the investigation has not been completed but there are only three players involved - Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.
6:18am
Sutherland has started the conference. He's begun by confirming there has been a board meeting and he apologises to Australians and "particularly all the kids who love the game and idolise the players" for the actions of the players involved.
6:02am
Sky Sports is reporting Sutherland is 10 minutes late. The presser will likely start at around 6:15am.
5:58am
Australian coach Darren Lehmann denies ball-tampering occurred during the Ashes.
5:55am
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that David Warner is the chief conspirator for this ball tampering saga, stating there could be motivation behind his actions after Quinton de Kock toyed with the Australians during the lunch break on day three of the Third Test.
5:50am
The Guardian is reporting the alleged "leadership group" involved in the situation is in fact none other than Steve Smith and David Warner. The three bowlers who bring balance to the "group" on other days are Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon - all of whom are enraged they're names are involved since they had no idea about a plan like this.
5:40am
Sutherland is expected to face media in just under 20 minutes. From what we know so far, he will address the probes the governing body has issued following the ball-tampering events in the third Test at Newlands.
