The Broadcasting Minister Clare Curran has today signaled she will stay on in her role, despite revelations of a meeting with RNZ's senior manager Carol Hirschfeld in December last year, that today led to Ms Hirschfeld's resignation.

Ms Curran addressed the speculation she would resign at Parliament this afternoon.

"At the time no, I didn't believe it (the meeting) was inappropriate, from my perspective no," Ms Curran told media.

"It was not a secret meeting, it was held in one of the busiest cafe's in Wellington, it was as I believed at the time an informal catchup meeting.

"In hindsight and now that I understand that RNZ has clear policies around meeting with Ministers that I wasn’t aware of at the time. I would not have that meeting again."

RNZ's head of content and well known broadcaster Ms Hirschfeld came under fire from the National Party over the meeting in Wellington she told her bosses was "coincidental".

However, Ms Hirschfeld subsequently admitted the December meeting was pre-arranged.

When questioned in Parliamentary question time about the meeting last year Ms Curran also claimed it was unofficial despite it being pre-arranged.
