A Wairarapa couple joked about winning Lotto the night they had a ticket in the draw, and only discovered a week later they'd actually struck the $12.5 million jackpot.
The couple had bought their ticket for the March 17 draw at a "lucky" shop in Masterton.
"I spotted Kuripuni Lotto and Post Shop while we were in town and just knew I had to get a ticket - they're such a lucky store," the NZ Herald quoted them as saying.
They waited several days to check their ticket using the Lotto NZ App
"When we found the store had sold the big one, my husband turned to me and said 'Did you get a ticket there?'," the winner said.
"She turned to me and said, 'Of course - and it's the winning one'. We both cracked up, not realising how right she was," her husband said.
The couple described the win as a blessing for themselves and their family but hadn't yet decided how they'd spend the money.
