All Blacks and Canterbury legend Fergie McCormick's health has taken a turn for the worse, currently in Christchurch Hospital battling throat cancer.
McCormick, 78, played 16 Tests for the All Blacks between 1965 and 1971, as well as making a record 222 appearances in an 18-year career with the union.
He has also coached age-group representative teams, as well as serving as the president of the Canterbury Rugby Union.
Speaking to Fairfax, friend and former teammate Tane Norton spoke about McCormick's condition.
"Everyone knows Ferg; he will make a real battle of it. There wouldn't be a tougher fighter."We know he will be well looked after in Christchurch Hospital."
