Australian Cricket continues to free fall with captain Steve Smith suspended and fined following premeditated ball tampering against South Africa.

Cameron Bancroft was caught holding a small yellow object which he later said was the piece of sticky tape during the third Test in Cape Town.

Bancroft said he tried to pick up rough granules from the side of the pitch with the sticky tape and rub it on the ball to try and change its condition.

South Africa went on the win the Test by 322 runs.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has condemned the behaviour.

"This is a shocking disappointment. It's wrong and I look forward to Cricket Australia taking decisive action soon."
