It was a Canterbury debut to forget for England all-rounder Ben Stokes, failing with both bat and ball in the Kings' Ford Trophy opener against the Otago Volts in Rangiora today.
Having been dismissed for just two runs with the bat, Stokes' went wicketless with the ball in defence of Canterbury's 221/9, bowling nine over for 49 runs.
Opening the bowling, Stokes was ineffective against the Otago opening duo of Hamish Rutherford and Rob Nicol, as the pair put on 175 for the first wicket.

A late collapse gave Canterbury hope, before the pair of Shawn Hicks and Jacob Duffy came together to hit the winning runs to get home by three wickets.
There was one moment for Stokes to remember however, welcomed to the crease by the Coronation Street theme, as the Rangiora ground staff had a bit of fun at the all-rounder's expense.
