The government has raised the bar for overseas investors, making it harder for foreign buyers to purchase land over five hectares in size.
However the 1 NEWS political team weren't so sure of the impact the changes would have.
When asked by Corin Dann on Inside Parliament about the changes, political reporter Andrea Vance said: "It's grandstanding".
"Where the changes will impact are on the smaller farms, so the rich applicants… they're going to be able to meet these conditions easily."
She said the move was to make "a political point".
