There's now an easier way for Wellingtonians to get on the property ladder, with the city getting its own version of Monopoly.

Some of the city's favourite places were announced on the board, including Parliament, Te Papa and Westpac Stadium.

Wellington Mayor Justin Lester says the city is now "right up there with Paris, Berlin and New York".

The game which is more than 80 years old now comes in 47 different languages.

The Wellington version of the game is now available to buy across New Zealand.
