Watch: Return of the King! Razzle-dazzle extraordinaire Carlos Spencer to play for Blues at Brisbane 10s, aged 42

November 2, 2017

Auckland rugby legend and former All Black first-five Carlos Spencer has announced this morning he will don the Blues jersey again as a wildcard player for next year's Brisbane Global Tens tournament.

Spencer accumulated 608 points in 97 appearances over nine highlight-filled Super Rugby seasons with the Blues from 1996-2005 before moving overseas to play for the Northampton Saints.

Next year will be his first time playing for the Blues since his 2005 departure.

"I'm a proud Blues man," Spencer said after he unveiled himself in a live video hosted on the Blues' Facebook page this morning.

"I'm very excited to be here, I'm looking forward to putting on the Blues jersey again... I'm excited to play with a bunch of youngsters and hopefully inspiring these guys to bring home the trophy."

The 42-year-old was renowned for his flair on attack both with the Blues and All Blacks with his imaginative kicking and passing game before he moved into a career in coaching after hanging up the boots for good in 2011.

The Brisbane Tens takes place at Suncorp Stadium next year on February 9 and 10.
