Graphic warning: Raw video shows multiple people scattered on ground after truck rams cyclists in Manhattan 'terror' attack

Six people are dead and nine injured after a a rented van drove on a bike path near the World Trade Center in New York City this morning (NZT).

A law enforcement official, not authorised to speak, told the Associated Press that the driver of the truck emerged from it screaming, holding two guns, before being shot by police.

The New York Times reported the truck was driven down the bike path and pedestrian walkway next to the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan.

A witness told CNN the truck crashed into a school bus.

The NYPD confirmed that one person was in custody after the incident, which took place about 3.10pm local time (8.10am NZT).

Police are treating the incident as terrorism.

Video, captured by CNN, shows people scattered across the ground.

The White House says President Donald Trump has been briefed, with spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders telling media, "our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected."
