Korean authorities have formally called for the extradition of a man who is believed to have fled Korea to New Zealand following an alleged triple murder.

Police say the man arrived in New Zealand from Korea earlier this week and was arrested about 5:30pm yesterday.

The 35-year-old appeared in the North Shore District Court this morning facing three historic theft charges and was remanded in custody.

He is due to reappear in court on Wednesday.

Police are working with Korean authorities around his possible extradition.
