Taranaki hooker Ricky Riccitelli was thrilled after helping his side to a 55-43 win over Canterbury, snatching the Ranfurly Shield in Canterbury last night.

Speaking as the team departed Christchurch Airport this morning, Riccitelli spoke about the prestige that the Ranfurly Shield brings with it.

"It's probably the biggest trophy you can play for, in New Zealand rugby," he said.

"We tried to not get too caught up in the moment, and focus on what we can control, and for us it came off."
