Currently set to face the All Whites with one round of matches to go: Peru
Another disappointing result for Argentina today means they now have to rely on other teams' results to progress in the FIFA World Cup. The team that finishes fifth in the South American qualifying competition will play the All Whites over two legs, home and away, in November. At the moment that's Peru, with Argentina in sixth. The final round of five matches is next Wednesday.

As it happened:
2.28pm: Chile have beaten Ecuador 2-1.
2.26pm: Paraguay have a dramatic winner from Sanabria. They've beaten Colombia 2-1.
Argentina-Peru finishes 0-0.
2.22pm: Now Paraguay have equalised against Colombia. Goal from Cardozo. That drops Colombia to third but leaves Peru in fifth and the playoff slot.
2.20pm: Argentina freekick on the edge of the box, just where Messi likes them. And he hits the wall.
2.17pm: Finally some goals. Ecuador have equalised against Chile through Ibarra. But then Chile score again to restore their lead. Sanchez on the scoresheet.
2.15pm: Colombia have scored through Falcao. They lead Paraguay 1-0. That moves them to second on the table and leaves Peru in the playoff spot.
2.08pm: Mascherano has a long range strike for Argentina which doesn't go too far over but the stalemate continues. Peru look very happy to hold on for a draw.
1.58pm: Peru are barely in the game but it stays 0-0. No change in Chile or Colombia either.
1.49pm: It's no goal fest in South America today with just one goal from the five games so far. And, to prove the point, Gomez misses a golden opportunity after being put through by Messi.
1.39pm: Back under way and Messi misses another opportunity for Argentina right from the kickoff. And then Biglia forces a save from Gallese. They know they need to score. Emiliano Rigoni came on at halftime for Di Maria.
1.19pm: Benedetto misses a superb headed chance from a Messi cross, summing up Argentina's qualifying campaign to make it 0-0 at halftime. Also at the break - Chile are 1-0 up and Colombia-Paraguay is goalless. Which puts Colombia in 3rd on the table, Chile 4th, Peru 5th and in the playoff position, and Argentina in 6th.
1.11pm: Farfan of Peru had a good chance from 5 metres out but missed the target. Argentina can't afford to concede now - a loss today puts them in danger of not even making the playoff. Messi then has an effort from outside the box which takes a slight deflection and goes wide.
1.03pm: At the half hour mark, Chile have the only goal from the three ties, while Peru continue to soak up the pressure from Argentina. Gomez forces a save from a tight angle from the Peru keeper Gallese and it stays 0-0.
12:55pm: Eduardo Vargos scores for Chile. That moves them ahead of Argentina and puts Peru in the playoff spot.
12.51pm: Messi had a great chance from a corner, but his shot from close to the penalty spot was deflected wide. Still the only chance.
12.43pm: With 10 minutes gone, all 3 games are locked up at 0-0. Argentina have had all the play against Peru but have yet to create a clear chance.
12.32pm: Going into the games, Colombia have 26 points, Peru 24, Argentina 24, Chile 23, Paraguay 21 and Ecuador 20. With a maximum of six points per team up for grabs of course over the last two games today and on Wednesday.
12.30pm: All 3 games are set for kickoff. Chile have their big name - Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal - in the starting lineup, as do Colombia who have Bayern Munich's James Rodriguez.
12.15pm: Argentina and Peru's teams are in, with plenty of household names in the Argentina side, including Sergio Romero, Nicolas Otamendi, Javier Mascherano, Angel Di Maria and, of course, Lionel Messi.
11.50am: In the earlier games today, Brazil , who have already qualified for the finals in Russia next year, drew 0-0 with lowly Bolivia. And in another stalemate, Uruguay were also held to a goalless draw by Venezuela, and are close to securing a place in the finals.
