Watch: 'That 57 is out of the system!' Boks coach scrambles for positives ahead of first match with All Blacks since humiliating loss

October 3, 2017

Springboks coach Allister Coetzee says he is focusing his efforts on the development, not the results, of his side in this year's Rugby Championship and others should do the same.

Heading into Sunday morning's final Rugby Championship Test of the season against the All Blacks, Coetzee was asked by media during a conference what his team would do differently in Cape Town to ensure what happened in their last match with the New Zealand team wouldn't be repeated.

Last month, the All Blacks played the Springboks in Albany where they won by a record margin - 57-0 - in a game critics said the hosts were utterly dominant  in.

But Coetzee said he and the team had moved on from the game and already had a performance to prove it after their hard-fought 27-all draw with the Wallabies in Bloemfontein.

"That 57 is out of the system already," he said.

"Coming back from such a big score, turn it around and you play against a fantastic Wallabies side... that was a classy side.

"To come from that big loss in Albany and still in a position to win [the Wallabies Test] in the end, that has certainly turned the tables around and put the Albany match behind us."

Coetzee explained in detail the strengths of multiple members of the Wallabies' back line to further his case.

The All Blacks coach says his South African counterpart is psyching his team up. (Source: Other)

Earlier, the South African coach said people who believed the Springboks could beat the All Blacks this weekend were living in a "fool's paradise" - a statement his Kiwi counterpart Steve Hansen didn't believe.

"Isn't it a beautiful way to psych his own team up?," the All Blacks coach said after touching down in South Africa overnight.

"It's reverse psychology. You guys believe it if you want to, but we won't be."

The All Blacks play the Springboks at 4am on Sunday morning with the Rugby Championship already locked away for another year.
