The US Ambassador to New Zealand, Scott Brown, has admitted he "probably" received a donation from the National Rifle Association during his 2012 electoral campaign for the US Senate.
Speaking with Jack Tame on 1 NEWS Breakfast, Mr Brown was keen, however, to stress his bipartisanship, adding that during his 2014 Senate campaign he was blacklisted by the NRA and received no financial donation from them.
"I don't recall, I probably got a donation form the NRA, but then two years later I got nothing from the NRA and I got blacklisted by the NRA so I've been on both ends," Mr Brown said after being asked about his links by Tame.
The US Ambassador said he wasn't totally sure if he did receive a donation from the NRA during his 2012 campaign for the US Senate, pointing out it was five years ago.
Asked what groups and individuals expected from Mr Brown for their electoral donations, Mr Brown said: "They expect me to read the bills, understand the bills, how they affect our state, our country.
"As you know I was the most bipartisan Senator in the United States Senate and that bothered a lot of people, it bothered my own party because I was bipartisan working with the Democrats."
