'They've made a race-winning move!' - Kiwi women's double sculls take home gold after flawless final at rowing world champs

October 2, 2017

Olivia Loe and Brooke Donoghue delivered a seamless race to claim gold at this year's world rowing championships in one of the more competitive races on the final day of competition in Florida.

The Kiwi women's double sculls crew were locked in a tight race with all five other crews at 750m but slowly stretched their lead at the 1000m mark before edging out to a near-unreachable lead by 1500m.

They came home winners with a time of 6:45.08 - a second ahead of USA and four seconds ahead of Australia in third.

The women's gold was matched a race later by their male equivalents, with John Storey and Chris Harris taking out the men's double sculls final with a late sprint.
