'The Kiwis don't know!' - the priceless moment men's double sculls realise they've won gold at rowing world champs

October 2, 2017

New Zealand men's double sculls John Storey and Chris Harris were so focused on delivering a great race in their final at the world rowing championships in Florida this morning that they didn't even look around at the finish line to see where they finished.

If they had, their reaction to winning gold may not have been as priceless.

With just 500m to go in the 2000m race, Storey and Harris were in the hunt for a medal, sitting third behind the Polish and Italian crews.

However, the Kiwis then kicked it up a gear with a sensational sprint, setting a tempo the other crews struggled to keep up with.

Poland followed up in second while the Italians finished third.

It was one of two gold medals earned by the Kiwi crews on the final day of racing with Storey and Harris' female counterparts, Olive Loe and Brooke Donoghue , also taking first place in the women's double sculls final.

The women's eight added a bronze.
