'We try and make it look easy' – Victorious Kiwi pair on rowing world champs triumph

October 1, 2017

Victorious Kiwi women's rowing pair Kerri Gower and Grace Prendergast have spoken about their phenomenal performance that saw them claim gold in Sarrecota, Florida, this morning.

Speaking to 1 NEWS reporter Abby Wilson after their gold medal winning display, Gower and Prendergast spoke of getting over the line, four seconds clear of American duo Megan Kalmoe and Tracy Eisser.

"We were very aware that the US were on their home soil," they said.

"We didn't want it to come down to a sprint with them having the advantage of a home crowd."

The pair also joked about the home crowd cheering against them in the final 500m before the finish line.

"It was a lot of noise, but I couldn't hear anything specific."

"For all we knew they were chanting for us!"
