Robert F. Kennedy's granddaughter Kyle Kennedy has died at the age of 42, after suffering a severe spinal cord injury that resulted in long term paralysis and years of medical issues.
A Massachusetts funeral home confirmed the death in an online obituary, saying she "passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026 at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts".
Her cause of death was not announced.
The Burke Funeral Home said she was born in Washington, DC and she spent most of her life in Massachusetts, where she built a career devoted to early childhood education.
In 2020, Kennedy suffered a severe spinal cord injury that resulted in long term paralysis, disability, and other medical challenges.
"The years that followed brought struggles but Kyle fought to maintain her dry wit and determination through it all, trying to be the best possible mother to her sons and caring for her two beloved, ill-behaved Wheaten terriers," the obituary said.
"She also began to advocate for people living with disabilities, including testifying at the Massachusetts state house in a hearing on discrimination in disabled health care."
Kennedy was the daughter of Michael LeMoyne Kennedy, the sixth oldest child of RFK and Ethel Kennedy.
Kennedy was survived by her sons, Conor, 12, and Declan, 10, ex-husband Liam Kerr, mother Victoria Denise Gifford, brother Michael LeMoyne Kennedy Jr. and sister Rory Gifford Kennedy.
