Global rideshare company Lime has clarified that its rental e-bikes are "not for jousting" after video online showed two riders dressed in medieval gear charging at each other in London.
At London Fields in Hackney, artists Jack Carden and Cam Tholomew traded horses for the rental e-bikes, wearing full suits of armour and lances as they attempted to knock each other off the bikes.
Carden - an artist and online personality who was born in New Zealand - described the free public event as "performance art".
The medieval-style jousting spectacle drew hundreds of curious spectators, and footage of the event was shared widely online.
A spokesperson for Lime told the BBC: "While we appreciate the medieval spirit, safety must always come first."
"We always love seeing Londoners come together and build a sense of community in unexpected ways.
"Lime bikes are designed for getting around the city, not for jousting.
"We discourage anyone from attempting similar events, to help keep riders and those around them safe," the spokesperson said.
