A false fire alarm at Karanga-a-Hape train station has closed stations on Auckland’s City Rail Link, throwing the city’s train network off schedule this morning.
Auckland Transport (AT) said lines are now returning to normal, but commuters should expect delays and cancellations while trains get back on schedule.
Fire and Emergency said it attended and it was a false alarm.
AT first alerted passengers just before 6am, saying East West Line and South City trains would detour because of an alarm at the station at Karangahape Rd.
“CRL tunnel is temporarily closed. Trains are not currently running to schedule across the network,” the agency said in a mobile alert.
The closure forced changes on two of the city’s main lines.
East West Line trains ran through Parnell between Kingsland and Ōrākei, missing Maungawhau, Karanga-a-Hape, Te Waihorotiu and Waitematā (Britomart).
South City Line trains terminated at Newmarket and did not stop at Grafton, Parnell, Karanga-a-Hape, Te Waihorotiu, or Waitematā (Britomart).
AT said the alarm went off at Karanga-A-Hape station at 5.35am and the station had been closed two minutes later. It reopened at 6.25am.
At 6.39am, AT said all Onehunga West Line trains had been cancelled.
Less than 10 minutes later, the agency said the alarm had been resolved and the East West Line had returned to its normal route, followed by the South City Line at 6.51am.
Some trains are skipping stations to help services get back on timetable.
The Onehunga-West line resumed normal service just past 9am.
Passengers have been told to check digital screens at stations before they board.
