Kiwi Supercars driver Ryan Wood has been ruled out of qualifying for the Bathurst 1000 and will start from the back of the grid after a crash in practice left his car heavily damaged.
The TWG Racing driver hit the outside wall after clipping the inside while coming out of Forrest's Elbow.
"Clipped the inside wall," Wood said, over the radio. "So sorry."
His engineer replied: "Mate, it's practice. You're always going to have to try it, so it's alright. We'll get it fixed up."
The session was red-flagged, and Wood's car was removed from the track.
The crash occurred at a crucial part of the weekend, with qualifying set to take place at 6pm tonight NZT.
Given the scale of the damage, Walkinshaw TWG Racing have made the call to withdraw the car. Wood will start from the back of the grid as a result.
"The boys will work pretty hard, and that's what I feel stink about," Wood said.
"It's just given them so much work that they really didn't need."

TWG Racing team principal Carl Faux said his crew was "prepared" and had experience from the last few years.
"It's seeing how much damage is done and whether we can get this out later today or not, but we'll do it precisely and make sure that we can get out with a really straight car for the rest of the weekend.
"Ryan's good – he's apologetic, but hey, this stuff happens at the mountain, and it's day two."
