A mystery pool of blood found in a Wellington pedestrian tunnel has prompted an appeal from police.
The "large" pool was found in the tunnel at Coutts Street in Rongotai, which runs under Wellington Airport to Miro Street in Miramar, after police were called at around 10.40pm on Sunday.
"Further enquiries have determined the blood was human blood, and police did not locate anybody in the surrounding areas at the time of attendance," Senior Sergeant Steve Wescott said.
Police called on the public to help establish what happened and identify anyone involved.
"If there is a person involved, our priority is to check on their welfare."
Investigators wanted to hear from anyone who was in the area near the tunnel prior to 10.40pm.
"Additionally, anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the surrounding areas is encouraged to contact police," Wescott said.
