A homicide investigation has been launched following the death of a man at a house in Dargaville.
Police said they were called to Hoeroa St at around 2.40pm yesterday after a man was found dead at a residential address.
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said an investigation was in the early stages to determine the circumstances around the man's death.
"A post-mortem examination and formal identification of the victim will be carried out over the coming days," Pilmer said.
A scene guard was in place while a scene examination was carried out.
Residents could expect to see an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continued.
"We know this incident will be unsettling for the community. Police want to reassure residents that a dedicated team of investigators is working to establish exactly what happened and who is involved," he said.
