A doctor who worked for the royal family was allegedly murdered by her husband while hosting a children's sleepover.

Dr Hannah Cain, known to her patients as "Dr Terry", was found dead at her property on the edge of the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk on October 4. Her husband Mark Cain, also 45, has been charged with murder.

UK tabloid The Sun reported that the 45-year-old Hannah, a mother of three, was a GP for the royal family and is believed to have treated several senior members, including Queen Camilla.

She was part of a pool of doctors regularly called on for members of the royal family.

Hannah was reportedly hosting a sleepover for children at the family home when the incident unfolded.

In a statement, her family said they were "devastated".

"She was kind, generous and loving; a beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend.

"We are incredibly proud of the woman she was and of the great care she took of all her patients who knew her as Dr Terry."

The Sandringham Estate is one of King Charles's royal residences and has long been where the family spends Christmas.

Sources told The Sun that the King and Queen had been informed of Hannah's death.

Mark has since appeared in court.
