A fire at a central Christchurch home has been contained after producing a "lot of smoke" billowing across the central city this afternoon.
Fire and Emergency NZ was called to the blaze at a one-storey home on Fitzgerald Ave at about 3.22pm, with three crews from Christchurch City and Woolston attending.
"FENZ have been on the scene for 26 minutes and are in the process of extinguishing it. The fire is contained but put up a lot of smoke when it was fully alight," a spokesperson told 1News.
