Cordons are in place in a central Auckland suburb this evening after a fleeing driver was stopped by police and hazardous materials were found in the vehicle.
Police said the vehicle failed to stop near Karaka at around 5pm, travelling north before spikes were deployed near Market Rd in Epsom.
“The vehicle came to a stop near the intersection with Great South Road,” a police spokesperson said.
“The driver was arrested and the vehicle was searched, and a number of hazardous materials were discovered in the vehicle.”

The nature of the materials is unknown. Footage captured by 1News at the scene shows tape which reads "Hot Zone",
Fire and Emergency NZ confirmed it was assisting police with three fire trucks from Remuera and Auckland City stations.
“Diversions are in place and motorists should avoid the area if possible.”
