A man is due to reappear in court charged with allegedly damaging election hoardings in Tauranga – the second such incident in the area.
Around 8pm on September 16, Senior Sergeant Shannon Clifford said police were called to Pāpāmoa Beach Rd following reports of a man causing a disturbance near Bermuda St.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a man allegedly damaging election hoardings.
The man was taken into custody.
The 49-year-old was due to reappear in Tauranga District Court on October 30 on two charges of wilful damage.
It was the second such arrest in relation to damaged election hoardings in the Tauranga area recently.
A Tauranga man was charged after an alleged "vandalism spree" led to 30 hoardings damaged in two hours.
The first hoardings on Parton Rd in Pāpāmoa were hit at around 6.30am on September 10.
A 43-year-old man was due to reappear in court on October 2 on four charges of wilful damage.
"Police hope these arrests send a strong message that anyone who chooses to cause this type of damage will face the consequences," Clifford said.
