A stolen car parked on yellow lines in West Auckland has led police to a man hiding under a bed and a modified shotgun stashed in a guitar case, with two people now due to face court.
On Sunday morning, a police unit spotted the vehicle parked on Hill Cres in New Lynn, and checks showed it had been reported stolen in August.
Acting Inspector Nick Salter said further enquiries revealed the number plates had been changed, and the person linked to those plates was wanted for a bail breach.
"Officers searched the vehicle and have then found several documents in relation to another woman who had a warrant to arrest," Salter said.
"A short time later officers made enquiries at a nearby address and a search of the property was undertaken."
Salter said officers found a man hiding under a bed.
"He was quickly taken into custody without incident," he said.
"A further search also located a modified single hand grip 12-gauge shotgun inside a guitar case, as well as live ammunition shells."
Salter said the find had taken another weapon off the street.
"Now we have another firearm taken out of circulation and two offenders to face court," he said.
"Police work hard to hold offenders to account, especially those with the potential to cause serious harm in our communities."
A 43-year-old woman is due to appear in Waitākere District Court today charged with unlawful possession of a restricted weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition.
A 23-year-old man, charged with contravening a protection order and wilful damage, will also appear in the court today.
