Four people have been arrested following an investigation into a series of unprovoked assaults in Dunedin that left several people injured.
Otago Coastal Area Commander Inspector Porima Rangitutia said the arrests related to three assaults reported between August 16 and 21.
In each incident, victims reported being approached by a group of people and assaulted without provocation, with several suffering moderate to severe injuries.
Officers from the Dunedin Criminal Investigations Branch carried out a series of search warrants across the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"The search warrants followed extensive Police inquiries and have resulted in four people, aged between 18 and 19, being arrested," Rangitutia said.
"They face charges of wounding with intent to injure, and injuring with intent to injure."
They were due to appear in Dunedin District Court next month and had been remanded on strict bail conditions.
Rangitutia thanked members of the public who came forward with information during the investigation.
"Everyone in our community deserves to feel safe, no matter where they are," he said.
"What the victims experienced is something nobody should have to go through, and I want to acknowledge them for coming forward.
"Violent offending of this nature has no place in our community and will not be tolerated."
