Police investigate sudden death at Wellington’s Gordon Wilson Flats

Police are investigating after a sudden death at the Gordon Wilson Flats in Wellington this morning.

Police are investigating a sudden death at the Gordon Wilson Flats in Wellington this morning.

Police were notified of the incident on The Terrace in Te Aro at around 8am on Wednesday.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the southern end of The Terrace and to expect delays," a police spokesperson said.

Footage captured by 1News shows police at the scene outside the building, which is currently undergoing demolition.

The Gordon Wilson Flats were subject to a long-running process over their former heritage listing, which prevented their demolition for years.

The flats were used as social housing until 2012, when an engineer's report deemed them unsafe, and they have been left vacant since.

Victoria University, who now own the flats, and WorkSafe have been contacted for comment.
