Large land and sea search for man, 71, missing from beachside BoP home

Police are appealing for information or sightings of a 71-year-old man missing from his beachside property in Bay of Plenty.

"He has not been seen or heard from since," a police spokesperson said.

Search and rescue efforts by police, Eagle helicopter, Fire and Emergency New Zealand teams, Surf Life Saving, Coastguard and NZ Land Search and Rescue volunteers have focused on both land and water as part of "extensive area canvass inquiries".

At this stage, police said "no evidence has been located that would assist in determining Ross's whereabouts".

"We again seek assistance from the public as efforts continue to locate Ross and return him to his family," police said.

Approximately 700 residential properties on the Pukehina Spit were being searched by specialist teams, along with the surrounding coastline and estuary areas.

Anyone who has seen Weir or had information that could assist should contact police on 105.
