Body found in water off Dunedin coast

A body has been found in the water near Lawyers Head in Dunedin this afternoon.

Police said they were called to John Wilson Ocean Dr around 3.20pm after a member of the public discovered the body.

"The body has since been recovered, and a formal identification process is underway," a police spokesperson said.

The road was cordoned off but had since reopened.

"The public may see an increased police presence in the area while enquiries continue."
