"One person was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene," a police spokesperson said.

St John said it sent two rapid response units, one ambulance, and one road manager to the scene.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said a crew from Ōtāhuhu provided assistance to St John staff.

WorkSafe have been advised of the death.
