System of a Down and Faith No More will play a one-off show in Wellington over Waitangi weekend next year.
The show will take place at Hnry Stadium on Sunday, February 7.
System of a Down is a Armenian-American heavy metal band which has sold over 42 million albums worldwide, most known for their album Toxicity, released in 2001, featuring songs such as Chop Suey! and Aerials.
They are also known for their energetic performances, which fans can expect to see in the capital alongside an "enormous career-spanning set" with classics known to fans across the globe.
The band first came onto the scene in 1998 with their self titled album, but have since grown to be one of the most recognisable rock bands in the world.
The show has also been supported by the Government's events attraction package, which Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston said demonstrated the value of investing in a broad range of international showstopper events.
"System of a Down is a globally renowned band in the rock and metal genre, and their passionate fan base is expected to draw visitors from around the country and beyond, delivering real benefits to Wellington's hospitality and tourism sector," Upston said.
WellingtonNZ general manager of events and experiences Heidi Morton said "we’re amped to welcome this New Zealand exclusive to Wellington".
"Aotearoa has a great rock and metal fanbase, and we’re confident of a sell-out crowd at Hnry Stadium.
"With the concert over Waitangi weekend, visitors can enjoy more of Wellington. One night you're headbanging, the next you're grabbing a beer on Cuba Street, browsing for vinyl, and swapping the band tee for boardies while getting sun at the beach.
"That's a great Wellington weekend, and we're looking forward to welcoming people from across the motu."
Alongside System of a Down, fellow American rock band Faith No More will also bring their fusion of alternative rock, metal, funk, punk and experimental music to the stage, with classics such as Epic and Midlife Crisis.
Fans who are opted in to either of the bands' mailing lists will get access to a presale for the event tomorrow, July 28.
The tickets will officially go on sale Friday, July 31 at 11am New Zealand time via Ticketek.
