Hoyts Cinemas is issuing a recall for its Toy Story 5 collector's cups sold in Australia and New Zealand over a possible choking hazard.

The cups – featuring film characters Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Lilypad and Woody – were sold at Hoyts Cinemas nationwide from June 16 to 29.

"Some of the character toppers have been identified as having a manufacturing defect which may result in the characters breaking if dropped, pulled or twisted," Product Safety NZ said on its website.

"Children are at risk of choking if small broken parts are placed in the mouth."

A recall had also been issued in Australia.

Anyone who suspected a child has ingested a small broken part or was experiencing difficulty breathing was advised to call 111 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room for immediate medical treatment.

Product Safety urged customers to immediately stop using the character topper and lid and either dispose of them or return them to Hoyts NZ for a full refund. The cups themselves did not pose any risk and could continue to be used.
