State Highway 1 south of Kaikōura has reopened, following last week's closure from the damages of torrential rain and severe flooding.
The highway is now open again between Cheviot and Kaikōura, New Zealand Transport Agency said.
A section near Hawkswood of more than 1km will be limited to a single lane for a few weeks, as the flooded Conway River had eaten away chunks of the road.
The transport agency warned there would be delays while traffic was being held in each direction. Motorists should plan for delays of up to 30 minutes in peak hours.
The inland Kaikōura Rd/Route 70 to the west of Kaikōura remained closed, but alternative routes via State Highways 7, 65, 6, 63 were still available.
The risk of further slips will continue to be monitored, the agency said.
