A cat in Melbourne has narrowly avoided catastrophe after nipping into the laundry for a snooze on a cosy duvet.

Minam, an 11-year-old feline with a heart condition, was napping in the blanket when the tumble dryer was turned on by his unwitting owner on Wednesday morning.

His owner, Syma, told Channel 9 she was "still traumatised" after accidentally putting the beloved pet through a four-hour cycle.

Syma said she realised what had happened after she called for her feline friend – and heard a scratch and a faint meow in response.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, is that coming from the dryer?’,” she said.

“That’s when I opened the door and he was just standing there.”

Minam was rushed to the local animal hospital, where he was placed on oxygen.

"I’ve never seen one live before, so it was incredible that he survived," vet Kassandra Makeham said.

Minam was in the intensive care unit for two days with bruising to his body, facial swelling, and dehydration.

The vet said the blanket likely helped blunt the impact of Minam's injuries.
