- A state of emergency has been declared in the Kaikōura district after the Kōwhai River burst its banks this morning, causing significant flooding.
- Residents in parts of Kaikōura are being urged to evacuate immediately and move to higher ground, according to Civil Defence.
- A red heavy rain warning remains in force for parts of Marlborough and Canterbury, including the Kaikōura Ranges, with more heavy rain expected.
- Orange heavy rain warnings are also in place across several other parts of Canterbury and Marlborough.
- The same weather system battered Otago on Monday, where a state of emergency remains in effect for the Waitaki District.
- On Tuesday morning, Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews rescued a person trapped in floodwaters in their car near Lyford.
