Police shut down suspected 'meth lab' north-west of Auckland

Police have shut down a suspected methamphetamine manufacturing laboratory after executive a search warrant in Riverhead, north-west of Auckland.

The discovery came after an operation targeting a group – with links to the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club – who were believed to be involved in methamphetamine manufacture.

Police detective Senior Sergeant Josh Lautogo said the investigation led officers to a Ridge Rd address. Officers then executed a search warrant at 5.30am today.

"A search of the property found sufficient equipment and chemicals to identify the site as a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory.

"Items located included hydrochloric acid, flasks, a condenser, and caustic waste from a previous methamphetamine cook."

Two people at the property were taken into custody without incident.

Lautogo said investigators would continue to target those manufacturing illegal drugs.

"This result reflects police's ongoing focus on disrupting organised crime groups involved in the manufacture and supply of illicit drugs."

A 55-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman are set to appear in Waitākere District Court tomorrow, charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.
