Three injured in two-vehicle crash on SH1 near Hunterville

Two people are dead following two seperate crashes in Northland last night.

Three people have been injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 near Hunterville this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the crash near the intersection of Vinegar Hill Rd at around 1.10pm on Sunday.

St John responded with two ambulances, a rapid response unit, a first response unit, a manager, and a helicopter.

"Our crews assessed and treated one patient in a moderate condition and one patient in a minor condition at the scene. A third patient in a moderate condition was transported to Palmerston North Hospital."

Police said the road would be closed with diversions in place.

Fire and Emergency NZ responded with crews from Hunterville, Mangaweka and Marton.

NZTA Waka Kotahi advised travellers to avoid the area if possible.

"A serious crash has been reported at the State Highway 54/State Highway 1 intersection, north of Hunterville township," it said

"All emergency services are attending. Delays are present, and a road closure is likely. Avoid the area if possible."
