A Christchurch motorist said a car behind him had been “flipped over” after a vehicle crossed the median strip and crashed into it on Linwood Avenue this morning.

Upon reviewing his dashcam footage of the crash, Aaron Pero said he felt his family had “dodged a bullet”.

Pero was in the car with his wife and two kids at the time of the incident.

“I just made the decision to jump on the accelerator and move over to the left.

“Watching behind my rearview mirror, I could see that same car hit the back of a Toyota Prado and then that Prado subsequently flipped over.”

Motorist Aaron Pero had dashcam footage of the incident.

Pero reflected: “I was probably a second away from being involved in it.”

“My wife and I keep replaying the footage and in the event and just thinking how it was quite lucky to escape it.”

Police told 1News the crash occurred at 10.30am on Linwood Ave near Smith St.

“The road was blocked for a short time.”

Hato Hone St John confirmed one person had been seriously injured, while another two had been moderately injured.

All three had been transported to Christchurch Hospital.

A fourth person in minor condition was also assessed at the scene.
