'Serious accident' involving bus and pedestrian in Napier

Emergency services responded to a crash involving a bus and pedestrian in Hawke's Bay this morning.

Police were called to Tennyson St, Napier at around 8.30am Friday.

Hato Hone St John said it responded with two ambulances, two operations managers and one rapid response vehicle.

Information on injuries had not been confirmed.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Chair Sophie Siers confirmed there had been a "serious accident" involving one of its Route 3 GoBay buses, operated by GoBus Transport, and a pedestrian.

"This is an extremely distressing situation, and our thoughts are with everyone affected," Siers said.

"We will fully cooperate with police to support their investigation into the crash."

Road closures were in place and diversions were likely to remain for much of the day, with motorists advised to avoid the area if possible.

The serious crash unit had been notified, police said.
