A homicide investigation has been launched after a man died outside a Lower Hutt property yesterday.

Officers were called to Malone Rd, Waterloo after a man was reported to be lying on the ground outside an address shortly after 8am.

"Upon emergency services’ arrival, the man was confirmed to be deceased," said Hutt Valley Field Crime Manager Detective Inspector Haley Ryan.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish what exactly has occurred, however police are now treating the death as a homicide."

She said a post-mortem examination was underway, and a scene guard remained in place at the property.
